Fall Break
Don't forget - MPA students will be off November 16th through November 25th for Fall Break.  Students should return to school Monday, November 26th, ready to begin the new trimester!
Log your volunteer hours online

Your time is appreciated! Please log your current volunteer hours online, either on the netbook near the sign-in at school, or at home.  We are not using the paper logs to record your hours anymore - all hours MUST be entered into the computer if you want credit for them!

Any hours you put in the paper log over the summer or earlier this year WILL be entered for you - you just need to enter your CURRENT hours.
Save the Date!
MPA's winter concert will be held December 7th from 6:30-8pm.  There will be tons of exciting things going on that day: Boosters are organizing a pasta dinner before the concert, there will be auctions and raffles to raise money for the school, and, of course, the students will perform!  This year's theme is The Four Seasons.  Watch your inbox for more information in the coming weeks on how you can help with this fun event!

Open House for Prospective Students & Families
Wednesday, November 14, from 6-8pm at MPA

Volunteers will be leading tours of the building, administrators will introduce the school and curriculum, and teachers will be here to answer parents' questions about the school.  Prospective students and their parents are welcome to come take a look around.

Check your Thursday Folder for a flyer you can share with any families you think might be interested in the school for next year.  You can also post the flyer on bulletin boards at libraries, coffee shops, rec centers, your office - anywhere you think families of Gifted students might be hanging out!
Re-Enrollment of Current Students Now Open!
The re-enrollment period for current students continues through Friday, December 14th.  Re-enrollment is being handled entirely ONLINE this year - the form is available on our website here, and payments can be submitted by check or via the website here.  The only way to guarantee your child a seat in next year's class is to have all of the enrollment information - AND THE $100 ADMISSION FEE - turned in to the office by Friday, December 14th.

Please remember, incoming siblings who are new to the school MUST have qualifying test scores on file with MPA in order for their application to be considered complete.  Please contact Nancy.Colby@MenloParkAcademy.com in the admissions office to learn more about applications for siblings of current students.
Yes, we have winter outdoor recess

Just a couple quick reminders for parents as we enter the season of slightly chilly weather at recess:
  • Students play outside at recess unless conditions warrant the need for indoor recess.  Recess will be outdoors at 25 degrees and above.
  • Children may only stay inside during recess due to illness or injury with a doctor's note.
Please remind your children to bundle up in the cold! If they can't zip or button their jackets practicing at home can be helpful.  They can also ask an adult for help at school.  And please make sure your child is wearing weather-appropriate clothing (i.e. tights or leggings under skirts, warm pants) when they come to school.
End of the First Trimester
MPA's first trimester grading period ends Thursday, November 15th. Report cards will come home on Thursday, November 29th. Thank you for your patience this term as we worked together with our sponsor to reorganize and streamline the GradeBook interface for parents, teachers, and students.

Second trimester begins Monday, November 26th.  Middle School students will be focusing on Organizational Skills (at school and at home!) during their Advisory sessions - look for more information on that throughout the trimester.
Boy's Basketball
From Coach Willie Littlejohn: We played hard, tough and determined but too many turnovers (due to nerves) led to a 45-31 season opening loss to the Lions. The Varsity team captain and starting small forward Zach Peacock had his best game ever with a career high of 18 point, 17 rebound performance. Just like last season, the boys played nervous in their first game but they are already looking forward to next week and wanting to play better. And again, the loudest people in the gym are the rocking Menlo parents who are huge supporters of the boys. The JV game was cancelled because of the recent storms. This week our games are back at the Warrensville Hts YMCA and are listed as follows:
  • Junior Varsity @ 10:00am vs. The Hawks - Season Opener
  • Varsity @ 1:00pm vs The Tigers - Second Game of the Season
Admission is Free to all games. GO WIZARDS!!!!!!
Food Drive & Penny War
The Food Drive & Penny War are ON! Please send in your non-expired, non-perishable food items and your spare change. Collections will benefit Salvation Army, the Cleveland Food Bank and St. Mel's food pantry. More information can be found on the attached flyer.
Electronics and Toys- Not for School
Please remember that students should not bring electronics or toys to school unless they have prior approval from a teacher to use them for educational purposes.  If your child has a phone for emergency use, it should be kept in backpacks or lockers during the school day. The potential for items being broken or lost is too great!

Students who break this school policy will have their personal item held in the office for parents to pick up.
